Crisis and Emergency Resources
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911. If you are thinking about suicide or are in emotional crisis, call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Free, confidential support is available 24 hours a day, every day.
Synchronous Mental Health is a psychiatric practice that provides evaluation and medication management for adults. We are not an emergency service, and we cannot respond to a crisis in real time. This page lists resources that can.
- Immediate danger or a medical emergency: call 911.
- Thoughts of suicide or emotional crisis: call or text 988.
- Text support: text HOME to 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line.
When to Call 911 or Go to the Emergency Room
Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room if:
- You or someone else is in immediate danger
- You have attempted suicide or harmed yourself
- You have taken more of a substance or medication than intended and feel unwell
- You are having a medical emergency, such as chest pain or trouble breathing
- You feel unable to keep yourself safe
If you are with someone in danger, stay with them if it is safe, and wait with them until help arrives.

How to Support Someone in Crisis
If someone you care about is struggling, you can help. Stay calm and listen without judgment. Ask directly whether they are thinking about suicide. Asking does not make it more likely. Remove access to anything they could use to harm themselves, if it is safe to do so. Stay with them, and help them connect with 988, 911, or a trusted professional. Afterward, encourage them to follow up with a provider, and take care of yourself, too.
Warning Signs to Take Seriously
Signs that someone may be in danger include talking about wanting to die or feeling like a burden, giving away possessions, withdrawing from people, sudden calm after a long period of distress, extreme mood changes, and increased use of alcohol or drugs. Any one of these deserves attention. If you are unsure, reach out for help. It is always better to check.
